Twitter Search - Being One of the Lucky Ones

by TheSourceress on March 16, 2009

Plenty has been written about twitter further integrating its search function. Bringing what was once summize off of the sub-domain search.twitter.com.

I’ve been indescribably jealous of those people getting to trial this new functionality.

I got a wonderful surprise last Tuesday morning. I logged into a twitter account I had created for a new blog project and to my delight, this was what I saw on my homepage:

New Twitter Search Functionality

So… What do I think?

Once again, twitter has taken something that can and is used in so many ways and kept it beautifully simple.

The top ten trends can be seen with one click.

New Twitter Trends Functionality

This is much better than all the scrolling and clicking that currently has to happen.

The only objection I have is that there is no link to the advanced search options. If I want to see tweets from a specific location, for example, I have to type in the old search page URL (because they have taken the link away) and then do my advanced search from there. Unless of course I can remember the commands I want.

This won’t really change much for those of us using twitter tools like TweetDeck, but for those loyal to the web interface, I can see it greatly enhancing the experience and taking twitter to a new level for many.
