I attended Enhance Media’s Online Recruitment Conference “The Year Ahead” today.
We were treated to talks from the likes of Facebook, YouTube and PricewaterhouseCoopers, among others.
Of course, the main focus was on recruitment, and I’ll talk more about that over on dot.green tomorrow.
I was interested to learn that the UK has 14 million active users of Facebook (users that have registered an activity in the last month). 7 million of these return to the site daily. The average time spent on the site by an active UK user is 25 minutes per day.
YouTube, only three years old and already accounting for 10% of the entire internet’s bandwidth usage at anyone time, presented an equally interesting presentation. Believe it or not, the key to videos going viral is either humour or boobs – who knew?! Get both and you’re onto a sure winner. Not only that but interesting to me was the notion that Video can increase dwell time on your website (the amount of time any given user spends on your site during the day). YouTube itself has an average dwell time of 40 minutes per visitor. As one of my main goals in future upgrades to EcoSearch’s website is to make it more ‘sticky’, I was inspired by the thought of having a company YouTube channel and puting some clips on the EcoSearch website.
I find myself newly inspired to investigate vlogs, without the boobs (probably). I was even considering setting myself up a Facebook page, so that way I can interact with People on Facebook without losing the updates of my ‘real life’ friends in the noise of those I’ve never met but want to get to know.
No sooner had I dismissed that thought above, thinking that I would never get anyone to be a fan of “TheSourceress”, than I became very briefly famous. This was thanks to my tweeting of the event using #hashtags. Apparently someone had noticed – TheSourceress was asked to identify herself to a room of 300 people.
I would of course be interested to connect with anyone that was at the event today. Twitter and LinkedIn are probably the easiest places to find me – or just find out more about me.
