5 Guilty Pleasures

by TheSourceress on January 26, 2009

To me, a guilty pleasure is something you know you shouldn’t like or do – but you do anyway – much to the confusion of those around you.

I don’t think there is any better way to get to know someone.

So, to help you understand me, here are my top five Guilty Pleasures…

Cold Chinese take-out for breakfastCold Takeaway - Yummy!
Nothing beats Chinese take-out, cold from the fridge the morning after… I think I might actually prefer it this way. My favourites are rice and chow mien, nothing too fancy – if there is a rib left over, so much the better. This provokes ridicule and disgust from multiple angles. That doesn’t stop me taking it into the office with me of course.

Alan Rickman by David Shankbone

Alan Rickman
I don’t know what it is that makes him quite so enthralling, but I could watch that man ALL day – and then the next day and then… you get the picture. I mean, he must be a thousand years old by now, but I don’t care – I could watch Hans Gruber shoot Mr Takagi every night of the week. Die Hard though, is a good movie and there is nothing quite as indulgent as an evening on the sofa with a bottle of wine and a couple of really BAD Rickman movies (the worse the movie the better, I don’t get as distracted from his innate Alenness). Although I have to admit, whoever wrote the synopsis on the back of the DVD box for ‘An Awfully Big Adventure’ must have been on crack at the time (if you have seen it, you will know what I mean).

Star TrekMe at The Star Trek Experience, Las Vegas Hilton
This was much more of a guilty pleasure when I was at School, now that I have a husband who loves Deep Space Nine just as much as I do, I don’t feel the shameful thrill of geeking-out about Star Trek as much as I used to. Still, the fact that my mother has several photo albums containing pictures of me dressed as various aliens does give me a certain amount of perverse pleasure.

Knitting
It wouldn’t be so bad if I knitted little blankets and cardigans for babies, or stylish scarves. Instead, I knit stuff like this.

Me With Tony "The Silverback" O'Shea

Darts
Even my husband thinks I’m a right ‘Old Gezer’ for liking the darts. What’s not to like? Fun music, maths (yes, I’m a geek), amusing characters, alcohol, and Bobby George of course!
